President of Future University in Egypt since 2006 till the present day, Prof. Ebada Sarhan’s career epitomizes
leadership and a passion for academia. Sarhan’s professional experience reflects both his academic as well as his
administrative expertise. He graduated from Cairo University with a BSc. In Communications and Electronic
Engineering; he received his MSc. in Computer Science from Manchester University and his PhD. in Computer Systems
from Heriot-Watt University after which he started his academic career in Helwan University. At Helwan University,
Sarhan assumed several academic as well as administrative positions ranging from Lecturer to Faculty Dean. He also
was a visiting professor in the Old Dominion University – USA (1984).
Sarhan’s achievements include, but are not limited to, being the founder of the first Faculty of Computers &
Information in Helwan University (1995), which was the first of its kind faculty throughout all Egyptian
Universities at the time; also the founder of the Scientific Computing Center in Helwan University (1984); moreover,
Sarhan supervised the implementation of the infrastructure of the information network at Helwan University (2002).
To this day, Sarhan enjoys a number of active memberships in a broad range of both local and foreign key scientific
committees and associations. Examples of these are: Academy of Scientific Research & Technology (2010 – present; The
Publishing for the Egyptian Journal for Computer (1980 – present); the
British Computer Society (1976 – present); the Institution of Electrical
Engineers, UK (1976 – present); the Institute of Electrical & Electronics
Engineer (IEEE), USA (1974 – present); the Egyptian Engineering Syndicate
(1974 – present); the Scientific Committee of the International Conference
of Artificial Intelligence (1993 – present) and the Teachers Syndicate
(1980 – present). He also enjoyed the membership of other committees and
associations such as: the National Information Committee – Academy of Scientific Research & Technology (1995-2010); the Evaluation Committee of Information Technology Project &
BSC of Computer Science at Ajman Faculty – Ministry of Higher Education, UAE (1996) among others. National Council
for ICT and The Sector Committee for Computer & Information Systems – Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) (1998 – 2003). Apart from being a member who participated in meetings,
Sarhan assumed active responsibilities in relation to these committees and associations. Examples of the roles he
shouldered are: a Secretary of the Permanent Committee of Promoting Professors & Associate Professors of Computer
Science and Information Systems – Supreme Council of Universities (1998 –
2009) and a Board Member of the Egyptian Computer Society (1990
–present) as well as
Additionally, Sarhan offered ICT consultancy services to several organizations such as: the Egyptian Pharmaceutical
Trading Company (1996 – 2006), the Egyptian Society for Small Industries
(1995 – 2006), the Egyptian Company for Whole Sale Trading (1998 –
present) and was the consultant to the President of Helwan University (2002 –
2004).
Furthermore, Sarhan effectively impacted the scientific initiatives he participated in during which his
responsibilities ranged from chairing, supervising and heading projects and committees. He authored and published
more than 45 scientific articles in international and local journals as well as Arabic language textbooks in the
field of Computer Science & Information Technology.
Throughout his career, Sarhan participated in several international, regional as well as local conferences during
which he gave several presentations. He also chaired permanent committees of the International Conference for
Statistics & Computer Science (2009 – present). Moreover, to fulfill his interest in research, he supervised 18 MSc.
theses and 8 PhD. dissertations as well as headed the Research Team for Implementing Information Systems Project –
Helwan University (2004 – 2006).
